Congregational Care

The UUMC Congregational Care Team includes a ministry of person-to-person care. Following Christ’s directive to “send out laborers,” the team recruited and trained a group of “compassionate peers,” or Compeers, to begin the process of establishing and maintaining contact with church families.
The team’s mission is to assure that every member of the UUMC family feels loved, included, and supported year-round.

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
~ Matthew 9: 37-38

The ministry has made significant progress toward realizing that purpose. Each Compeer serves a two-year rotation as the church contact person for 15-20 families. Through regular and intentional contact, Compeers share in the joys and sorrows of their assigned families and nurture each member’s connection to UUMC.
On Sunday, April 13, 2008, the congregation celebrated the first anniversary of the Compeers program by welcoming new members to the program and acknowledging the strong foundation of care that has been established by the first Compeers.
Their work reinforces and expands the vital member care that has long been an integral part of the adult Sunday School program at UUMC. The Congregational Care Team looks forward to a time when most of the church’s members will have served as a Compeer. It is an enriching experience both for the served and the server.
