| Epiphany SundayJanuary 5 | 11 amWe celebrate Epiphany Sunday, January 5 and welcome guest preacher Rev. Lizzie Wright. On Epiphany Sunday we remember the maji of Matthew’s Gospel account and the star that they followed to worship the one born as Savior of the world and we celebrate the Light of Christ that shines. We will celebrate holy communion and all will be invited to take home a "star word" to use in prayer practices. |

Service of Worship Sunday @ 11 amScripture: Luke 2:41-52This Sunday we continue our celebration of Christmas and we will continue to sing the songs of Christmas. It is the Sunday after Christmas and this will be a casual service. Feel free to wear your comfy clothes (parents - children are even welcome to come in pajamas!). Pastor Teresa is preaching and the lectionary Gospel lesson from Luke 2:41-52, when Jesus the child is found by his parents in the temple. We will receive a special candle-lighting litany as we reflect on the past year and look at a new year. |

The Work of Christmas Begins
When the carols have been stilled, When the star-topped tree is taken down, When family and friends are gone home, When we are back to our schedules The work of Christmas begins: To welcome the refugee, To heal a broken planet, To feed the hungry, To build bridges of trust, not walls of fear, To share our gifts, To seek justice and peace for all people, To bring Christ’s light to the world. - by Michael Dougherty, a variation on Howard Thurman’s ‘ When the Song of the Angels is Stilled’ |

End of Year Update!
What an incredibly successful pledge season we’ve had and we owe it all to your generosity. We are now at 156 pledge cards totaling $787,995 pledged. We are just $22,000 shy of our $810,000 goal for 2025.
Our hope here at University UMC is that we not only take good care of each other but that we endeavor to be a church in the world, constantly reaching out to help our neighbors. Together we have a long tradition of social justice ministries because you are a church in the tradition of John Wesley. The world truly is your parish. We know you are receiving many letters and emails this year from worthy organizations vying for your end-of-year gifts. Supporting this incredible church not only supports the key work of connecting people in worship and education, but also creates hope for a better world.
As you consider your giving, we hope you’ll remember UUMC. You can make end-of-year contributions through December 30. |
