| Austin International Half-MarathonTHIS SUNDAYSunday is the Austin International Half Marathon. The course will primarily affect those who live north of UUMC. However, we should all expect some additional delays coming to church. The easiest way to get to church will be to use Mopac and 24th Street. Once you’re on 24th headed towards campus, turn left onto San Antonio for access to the Platinum Lot or San Antonio Garage, or turn left onto Guadalupe St. for access to the church parking lot. You can view the course map on their website. |

| Martin Luther King Jr. MarchMonday, January 20 | 9 am
Please Note: The weather forecast for the march is below freezing temperatures when we begin. We invite everyone to take care of themselves and make a decision that is best for you. If you’re still feeling like you need to be with community on Monday, know that we will still be bundling up and marching. All are invited to the annual Community March! This year the schedule for the march is different than in years past. The MLK Community March kicks off on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. on the south steps of the State Capitol for a rally. We will meet at the church's main parking lot at 8:45a.m. and at 9 a.m. will begin walking to the Capitol. You are also free to come to the Capitol on your own - we'll have our church sign and you can look for us there. At the conclusion of the program, participants will march to Huston-Tillotson University for the MLK Festival. You can read more about the event details on their website. |

| Tuesday Night Lights: John Wesley’s Sermons through a Rainbow Lens
**NEW DATES**January 28 - February 25 | 7 pmHybrid - Library or ZoomAre you interested in exploring John Wesley’s sermons and discovering how they are still relevant to us as Methodists for full inclusion and social justice? In this 5-week class, we will read Wesley’s core sermons guided by Queering Wesley, Queering the Church by Keegan Osinski. Together, we will reflect on how the spirit of Methodism can continue to shape our faith and practice in the 21st Century and how the legacy of Wesleyan holiness can inspire an expansive openness to the love and grace of God in queer Christian lives. |

Service of Worship Sunday @ 11 amScripture: Luke 3:15-17, 21-22Join us for worship on Sunday as we celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and recommit to the ongoing work of justice in the church and in the world. We are thrilled to welcome guest preacher Rev. Dominique A. Robinson, DMin. to the University UMC pulpit.
The Rev. Dr. Dominique A. Robinson, an ordained itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church, is a millennial Womanist homiletician and justice advocate. She is the John Hines Assistant Professor of Preaching at the Seminary of the Southwest.
This is also a Family Sunday which we celebrate every 3rd Sunday of the month and children’s director Jillian Moore will be bringing the children’s sermon. |

New Day’s Lyric by Amanda Gorman We come together. Mourning, we come to mend, Withered, we come to weather, Torn, we come to tend, Battered, we come to better.
Tethered by this year of yearning, we are learning That though we weren’t ready for this, We have been readied by it. Come over, join this day just begun. For wherever we come together, We will forever overcome. |

| Charge ConferenceThere will be a called Charge Conference on Thursday, January 23 at 7 pm during the Church Council meeting for the sole purpose of determining the housing allowance for our appointed clergy, Rev. Kim and Rev. Welborn. District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Marcus Freeman will preside. |
| UUMC Foundation Gives $125,000 To ChurchThe Finance Committee will be meeting soon to finalize the 2025 budget. We are grateful for the generosity of our members and visitors who pledged in the Fall 2024 Stewardship Campaign. In addition, the UUMC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit corporation, provides support to UUMC through annual distributions. At its December meeting, the UUMC Foundation board approved a $125,000 gift to the church. We are grateful!
We are fortunate to have the foundation and its ongoing support. Ever since its creation in 1962, the foundation has received gifts enabling UUMC's vision and ministries to continue and thrive. Among those committed to the foundation and UUMC were Drs. Marie and Albert Tisdale, whose foresight and generosity led to a gift in 2012 that keeps on giving. Of this year’s foundation gift, $21,564 came from earnings from the Tisdales’ gift.
The foundation welcomes gifts of any size and at any time. Many donors make gifts in honor or memory of a loved one. Others include the foundation as a beneficiary in their estate planning or make lifetime or year-end contributions. If you have any questions about the foundation or would like to visit about giving, contact Director of Finance Cindy Reeves or Senior Pastor Teresa Welborn. You can also visit the donation page on the website and select "Memorials" to give a gift in memory of someone that will go to The Foundation. |

Texas Impact Postcard CampaignTexas Impact is a non-profit that includes People of Faith who are Working for Justice. Texas Impact is currently asking people of faith to write postcards to their legislators regarding the current abortion ban. As it reads on their website: |
|
“Texans don’t have to agree on every abortion question to know that pregnant patients deserve the best care, and doctors deserve respect. Texas legislators should fix Texas’ abortion laws so they reflect our shared Texas values.
Unfortunately, many lawmakers are unwilling to acknowledge the Texas abortion ban goes too far. Women are risking death and lifelong health problems from pregnancy complications, while other women are afraid to get pregnant for fear they can’t get help if something goes wrong." |
