Dear friends and members of University UMC:

I write to you from Corpus Christi where the Annual Conference of the Río Texas Conference is taking place. It is always good to see colleagues and friends I’ve known through the years. We have a fantastic delegation representing University UMC this year. Here’s a picture of us (including our incredible Capital District Operations Manager Jill Barre) at a dinner before the first day of meetings.

One highlight was the “Justice at the Table” event planned by Reconciling Ministries Network and Methodist Federation for Social Action. We were invited to consider the tables where we felt invited and welcomed. Our own Rev. Nancy Mossman presided at communion and the beautiful prayer of confession used in the liturgy is shared below.

As a long-time member of the annual conference, I also find the Memorial Service a meaningful and moving experience as we remember the clergy who have died over the last year. This is a picture of Rev. Billy Joe Hammond, who was pastor of my hometown church of Ingleside UMC when I was first exploring my call to ministry. I will forever remember and give thanks for his care and support.

I look forward to being with you in worship this Sunday as we celebrate Vacation Church Camp. Our Director of Children’s Ministry, Jillian Moore, and her team did an excellent job leading our amazing children. Plan to join us for worship as we celebrate the week and learn what the children were up to over the last few days. The music will be led by AV and our children and will include some of the VCC songs. As well, missionary Christian Schlick will join us for worship. Christian Schlick also spoke at Annual Conference and I had the joy of meeting him here in Corpus.

What a joy to be your pastor!

Teresa

Prayer of Confession before Communion

Written by M Jade Kaiser

shared at the “Justice at the Table” event:

Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart.

We have failed to be a beacon of your hope in the world.

We have not welcomed all your beloved children to the Table.

We have prioritized security, comfort, and power above serving those on the margins.

Forgive us, we pray.

Free us to joyfully live into who you created us to be.

Guide us to partner with you in creating your justice and peace,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
