Interpreting Dreams
by Clare Harper

While many of us think of dreams as a sort of prophetic wisdom or the goals and hopes we have in our waking life, they aren’t always so profound. Sometimes, they’re just weird. They seem to have no meaning. I have had many strange dreams, whether it be coasting through a lazy river at Schlitterbahn with sharks in the water, or watching my friend fly to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

While there is no harm in simply dismissing these odd dreams, we may find that they are helpful when we try to interpret them. Dreams can appear absurd, but all they really are is the mind trying to process your experiences and tell you something you may only realize subconsciously.

A common dream for many is one in which all of your teeth fall out. Although this is strange (Is my brain trying to tell me I don’t brush my teeth enough?), studies have shown that oftentimes this particular dream is pointing you to something that is causing you anxiety in the real world. Learning what dreams like this mean can help us draw awareness to bad habits, stress, or more positive things that we experience in our everyday lives.

The next time you dream about flying dogs or being part of the circus, look it up. You may learn something new about yourself!

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.
— Carl Jung

God made known in the friendship of women, the word of greeting and unseen life enwombed: give us the courage of the teenage mother who brings into the world a song of joyful revolt and a God who needs her love; through Jesus Christ, the one who is to come.
Amen.
— – Steven Shakespeare
