Friends,
January came and went far too quickly. We had a great month of Tween time, OWL, storytelling and a Tween lock-in for the ages! February will be just as full of opportunities to be together and celebrate all the life we have in this church. We’ve been busy planning Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner, Easter Festival and Vacation Church Camp. Find an updated Spring calendar here.
As we enter February, I’m considering all the ways that we engage in Black History Month as a community. Likewise, I hope you’ll consider how your family is celebrating! If you haven’t found it yet, we have a wonderful list of great resources to refer to as you move through this month and beyond. Pastor Teresa will be using liturgy from Cole Arthur Riley’s Black Liturgies. I highly recommend both of her books and her instagram for stunning poetry and much needed reminders of our humanity. I’ll be cooking some of my favorite recipes from Bryant Terry’s Black Food. Include kids and friends in cooking and talking about some of the stories and recipes from this cook book. For something to play in the car when you’re picking up kiddos from school and activities, here’s a BHM playlist made by UUMC staff.
I’m looking forward to the month ahead. I hope to see you all at Family Sunday, February 18th. Be sure to plan around Austin Marathon traffic that Sunday. Please know that I’m in your corner and cheering each of you on, always! Happy February!
Peace,
Jillian
