Lenten Offering

Our Special Offering this Lent will go to the UT Outpost at the University of Texas. Funds will be used to stock the on campus food pantry in the Office of the Dean of Students, supplying food-insecure students with free food.

To Donate

You can donate by cash, check or online to help us support the UT Outpost. Please write “Lenten Offering” on your offering envelope or the memo section of your check. If you are giving online, visit uumc.org/give and select “Give to Special Offerings.” Thank you for your generosity.

Amplify Austin

Amplify Austin Day is March 6 - 7, but Early Giving for Open Door and Fig Leaf is open now at Amplify Austin! UUMC relies on funds raised through Amplify Austin to supplement the church budget for these ministries, which provide nutritious meals and crucial clothing and supplies to our unhoused neighbors every Saturday morning. And the need is growing: the average number of guests each week increased by 75% in 2023 compared to 2022. To help meet this need, our goal is to raise $10,000, which generous friends have offered to match. Please consider donating between now and Amplify Austin Day. Thank you!

Another organization you can consider supporting is Micah 6 of which UUMC is a founding member. Micah 6 has worked for more than 20 years to address food insecurity in Austin.

Around the Community

HESED Lecture Series:

“History/Whose Story? Reclaiming Our Stories”

Hebrew for Love in Action, HESED lectures are an annual program at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary intended to explore the intersection of justice and Faith. This year, on March 1-2, the lectures will focus on history. Specifically, whose stories have historically been told–and whose stories have not. They will celebrate the wholeness of human history by reclaiming obscured stories, perspectives, and cultures that have been underrepresented in mainstream discourse. Learn more and Register (it’s free!) to attend on their website.

Poor People’s Campaign Rally

As part of a nationwide day of assembly, there will be a rally at the Texas Capitol on March 2 at 11 am to raise awareness of the plight that is income inequality in America. This assembly will bring Texas residents together in solidarity on voter rights, healthcare, immigration, livable wages and education. You can learn more about the Poor People’s Campaign, and their goals on their website.
